Moroccan Restaurant: A Visit To The Menara Morocco Restaurant

For my paper, I chose to go to the Menara Moroccan restaurant that features a decorative Moroccan atmosphere and a traditional dance performance from experienced belly dancers. I have never been to this restaurant, nor have I seen a belly dance performance before, so this experience was very new to me and I like that I got a chance to experience a completely different culture. Entering the restaurant, you feel as if you have just walked into Morocco. This is shown by the visual display of dim lighting and colorful drapes that surround the restaurant. The dancer would move her hands back and forth, along with her hips. There was a lot of space being used as she stepped all around the restaurant dancing in many different areas. She smiled throughout her performance and interacted with many people. The dance seemed like it was choreographed because these performances are done every week, so they must practice them to get them right to perform every week. It was a combination of fast and slow-paced dance. At some point, it got very fast with the feet and hand movements and at other times it was very steady and leisurely. Her rhythm matched with the music all throughout the performance. The body posture of the dancer was upright and straight the majority of the dance. The body parts that were emphasized the most were her hips, which swayed back and forth a lot, and her arms which were doing gestures along with the music the entire time. Her arm movements were all reaching out, especially when she was trying to get people involved. Her hips were curving a lot, which makes sense because it is belly dancing dance and that involves a lot of work towards your stomach and hips. In closing, I want to say how much I enjoyed going to this restaurant because not only did I discover a new eatery, but I got a chance to witness an entirely different culture that I have never experienced before. One of my favorite things was the atmosphere inside and how it really gives you a look into the Moroccan culture.
