Monsters Are Stressful

Personally, I would rather find a monster hiding under my bed than go on a job interview. Monsters are less stressful. That may seem like a strange statement, considering that I am often the person conducting the interview. Truth be told, I think the importance of the impression you will make when you present yourself for an interview can put stress levels through the roof. Having been on both sides of the interview table, I have come up with a few ideas to help you get that stress under control and rock your interview.

1. Show up on time. Better yet, show up early and sit in the car until it is time to go inside. Punctuality is important, and if you show up late, your nerves will be frazzled before you ever walk inside. You don't want to be very early either, as …show more content…

Don't talk too much. Be certain that your nerves don't make you babble every time there is a lull in the conversation. Sometimes nerves will make you talk incessantly, which can lead to you saying to much. Try listening to what the interview is saying. Ask questions that let you get to know about the person on the other side of the table. Do not spend the entire interview blowing your own horn.
7. Be yourself. In the business world,the word authentic has been a bit overused. However, this is one time when it is important to be the real you. When you try to portray yourself in a different light, you don't show who you really are. The real you is the person trying to get the job, and being yourself is much less stressful than trying to be someone else.
8. Be friendly and respectful to all. Your behaviors will be noticed and it is very important to make a good first impression. The first thing I notice in an interview is how you treat the people around you. Be as respectful and friendly to the janitor or security guard as you would be to the CEO. Stress can bring out the worst in people and it is vital that you not let that happen. Smile and treat people the way you want to be
