Critique paper Maureen E. Wilson is the author for Teaching, Learning, and Millennial Students. Her intent is to alert College and University educators and faculty on the challenges to be faced with regards to education and Millennial students. College and University educators and faculty attempt to make education unique in a way that grabs the millennial attention. They need to enhance their curriculums using creative environments that use technology and avoid the traditional lecture type classes. According to Barr & Tagg (1995) (as cited by Wilson 2004), they stated that the mission and purpose of education is to produce learning, not to deliver instruction. The creation of study groups and learning partners creates friendships and trust amongst Millennial students. Wilson goes on to mention that the millennial need to learn to transition from their high school mentality where they barely studied to finding the appropriate length of to study time. All through this principle she [Wilson] continues to stress the need for student faculty interaction and the impact that it has on the students. She continues to deviate from the subject to go back to the first principle. The highlight of the Active Learning principle is that she recommends that instead of having lectures, discussions allow Millennials to remember what they have learned. To get them involved in class discussions, faculty needs to associate their material with the millennial experiences. This method allows them to retain what they have learned. Also, using other innovative techniques to keep them involved and engage is another method the faculty can use to educate them. The study was only sent to 402 students in a New England University via email. Of the 102 students that answered the survey, 74 were females and 18 were males. In summary, the majority of the answers from the survey indicated that the students preferred to use their cell phones, internet searching tools, write notes rather than typing them. Of importance, Nichols (2008) stated that almost 43% mentioned that their preferred method of learning was thru the use of power point slides along with lectures.
