In today’s society, there are leaders all over the world. These leaders are well experienced because they learned from someone eminent in leadership before they got into what they are in today. What will happen to future young adults if they have no idea about leadership? That’s why in June of 2013, there was a small study done at a middle school that taught young middle schoolers the skills in leadership can be used in the future. There were tons of lessons and activities involved in this small study, but the most significant lessons taught were character associated in leadership, interactions with fellow peers and learned how to believe in themselves before leading others. Becoming a leader comes in different shapes and sizes. Teaching these young students about a character is immensely valuable because this gives their fellow peers a sense of who they are as a leader in the future. To have these students understand more about character they must first experience it first hand. To demonstrate character, students had traits written on their arms, hands, and faces, for example, creativity. Having creativity as a trait tells their peers that as a rising leader, they have a sense of imagination to make things fun and not all too serious. The joy of these students attending middle school is that they are on a quest into discovering who they are. “The mastery of the art of leadership comes with the mastery of the self, and so developing leadership is a process of developing the self” (qtd. n Bowman 59). This quote summarizes what a growing leader should do before anything else because without discovering themselves they can’t help others.
