Animators vs. Comic Illustrators/Cartoonists
Who created that animated movie? Or that amazing graphic novel? It wasn’t a bird or a plane and it was definitely not a superhero, it was an animator or a comic illustrator/cartoonist. After completing the Career Inventory test, the two careers recommended for me are that of a cartoonist/comic illustrator and animator. Cartoonists/comic illustrators and animators have similarities in their job description, education, and the skills needed, yet both have differences in their working conditions, any money earned, and the job outlook.

A cartoonist/comic illustrators’ working environment could be different from an animators such as who they work for, the hazards of working, and the hours. For instance, for an animator, who they could for are advertising agencies and film, television and animation production agencies, while a cartoonist/comic illustrator works for agencies, book publishers, film and television productors, and many more. Animators could also suffer more physical pain such as, neck, eye, wrist, or back strain, whereas cartoonists/comic illustrators only suffer eye or neck strain. Although, both jobs have a standard 40-hour week, animators can work over 60-hours or overnight. Another difference, is that both jobs have different salaries for each level of the job. For example, an advanced cartoonist/comic illustrator just make about over $700,000.00 per year, while advanced animators just make a little bit over $100,000.00 per year. An annual salary for an animator is $61,000.00, whereas a cartoonist/comic illustrator makes around $25,000.00 to $65,000.00. Finally, the job outlook for each job is completely different from one another. cartoonist/comic illustrators’ will go up to 803 in 2022, whereas animators’ employment will go up by 2,008 people in 2022. Also, the job outlook for an animator, there is only 6% chance of
I decided to use Herman Lee for my artist comparison. The first piece that I saw of his was a series about Great Romans and they were portrait pieces. He has five pieces in this series that contain five different Roman people. They happen to be portraits of a person in vector/illustrative style. I decided to use this as a starting block for my piece. Instead of doing a leading figure in our today society as my portrait piece, I chose to do myself. Doing a portrait of yourself to me is harder to manage then doing a portrait of another person. Doing a portrait of yourself is hard to me because it involves figuring out what side of you, as a person, you want to be seen as or what you want to be seen as. You have to show a piece of who you are as a person and be quite vulnerable to the viewers, so I decided to go outside my comfort zone for this piece.
Application of career theories to my own life allows for analyzing past and future career decisions. Holland’s Theory of Careers states that one’s vocation is an expression of self, personality, and way of life. There is an indisputable and fundamental difference in the quality of life one experiences if they choose a career one truly enjoys, versus choosing a career one detests. A true testament to the validity of Holland’s theory, my job/career choices reflect my interests, as well as the evolution of my personality (internal self). My first job as a fine jewelry specialist and second job as a make-up artist echo my love of the fashion world. As I matured and became less fascinated by presumed “glamour” careers, I became captivated by physical fitness, nutrition, and medicine; I received my national fitness trainer certificate so that I may become a personal trainer. Nevertheless, my career decisions do not fit uniformly into merely one career theory.

Disney has portrayed women in movies by the use of animation characters for over a century since the 1900s. There has been a very big change since the early 1900’s to modern day in Disney’s depiction of the personalities of the women, their attitudes and ideologies towards men, and the way they are portrayed in the movies. This progression has had a distinct development, from passive damsels in distress in need of the help of men, to being superheroes. Therefore, the evolution of women in Disney movies will be analyzed through the use of university level feminist essays, as well as a research paper written about gender roles in Disney animation. The evolution will also be analyzed through examination of the clips of the movies themselves.
My present interest in art is more graphic/typography based, although I do enjoy all areas of art. I have been designing graphics on my computers from a young age and have work published in national magazines. Not all the graphical work I do is computer based, I enjoy using traditional mediums in a clean graphical way, as I find it more satisfying working on a larger scale and producing something more "real". My current course has helped me "branch out" more; I have experimented in many disciplines successfully producing paintings, pastels and drawings, which I had never really developed fully before.
There are a lot of similarities and differences in cartoons. Next time when you see two cartoons, look closely to see the differences or similarities between the two. Have fun coming up with a list of what you see when watching

The art of animation is one that is used very commonly today. It is displayed upon billboards and in movie theaters around the world. The job allows you to express oneself through animations and creating characters that come to life through animation. To become an animator one needs to have a degree in animation, courses for this are given at many colleges, and it is helpful to have a degree in other relevant categories such as film or illustration. Some skills that are useful for animators to have include creativity, artistic ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure. Many animators are self-employed, due to the standards for animators being high. It can also be hard for animators to find work

Cartoons are the one that young and old audience grew up with. The most popular cartoon of all time was called “Disney”. Though way back in the 1928, a short animated film introduces in black and white called “Streamboat Wilie” with a cartoon mouse named Mickey. However, in 1986 a Japanese animated film had been joined in the world of animation (a.k.a called “anime” in Japanese). His name was Hayao Miyazaki He capture the wonderful imagination known well in the Japanese animation film existed today. Both films are very successful toward their film. But one is American and one is Japanese. However, Buzzfeed made a survey online about which animated film is the best. The result was fifty
As far as the skills and talents you need to excel in this career, they are numerous. To be an animator, it is important to have skills in drawing. Literature has learned to grow and progress over the years, but still till this day graphic novels are having trouble with being accepted as literature. Good literature is a piece of work that can incorporate writing and illustrations that pulls the reader in and leads them throughout the book. After reading a couple of graphic novels I have to disagree with the scholars who believe that they aren’t a piece of literature. Each graphic novel tells a story just like “regular” novels do. They each capture your imagination and keep you interested. They may look childish to some, but you should never judge a book by its cover. “Graphic novels that succeed as literature escape the norm and invite critical discussion, analysis, and, often, comparison with text-only books featuring similar situations, climactic crises, or aesthetics” (Goldsmith). Graphic novels tell a story, draw in a different audience, and expands a reader’s imagination, so with that said, they should be considered as literature.

Coming to the point of my current career choice has been a long road. My idea of what a career is or should be has changed with circumstances and age. According to Weintraub (2005), “the average worker spends only four years in a job and will have 12 jobs in as many as five career fields during his or her working life.” (para. 1) My first career was marriage and motherhood followed by a surprising healthcare career. What the future holds waits to be seen. With a bachelor of science degree in information technology the options are wide open.
When students learn how to read in elementary school, teachers would teach students how to read comic books and as students we see that the comics would give the animals multiple human traits. Many comic books substitute animals and give them human-like characteristics, such as the ability to talk and walk upright. However, the debate rages on as to what type of animal makes a good character and what type of animal makes a bad character. Comic writers would often use different types of animals that are naturally seen in the real world and they would determine what type of role they would have in the comic book. Also the cartoonist would determine who should prevail, who should not, and their emotions towards one another.
