She stifled her laugh when she heard them stir. She found a small tissue and forced a tear as she trudged into the kitchen.

“I’m so sorry dears, I couldn’t stop crying,” she said in a sorrowful tone. “I just miss Patrick so much!” She sobbed as she walked to her bedroom. Once she walked in her room, she laid in her bed and fell asleep only to be woken up by the same detectives standing over her bed.

“What is the matter?” She asked in a delightful tone.

“Would you be so kind as to take care of Annabeth for me? I’ve thought about it for a while and I don’t think I would do very well as a mother since the accident,” she said

“We would love to take care of her,” they said excitedly.

Mary sat down on the old sofa in the living room and relaxed. She hadn’t been able to relax like this in months. Once her head hit the cushion, she fell asleep. She slept until the next morning when she smelled her favorite breakfast, lamb tacos and orange juice.

“What is that lovely smell,” she asked as she walked into the kitchen. It looked just the way it did when she left. The pastel yellow tiles still bright and freshly scrubbed. Mary sat down at the table and waited for her food to finish. Her mother set the plate and the glass down.
