Realism took place during 1865-1910, which was the 19th century; it was caused by the rejection of romanticism and civil war. Individuals no longer felt identified by the writing, time was changing, the economy was no longer the same, factories were growing, and many more things were changing. Therefore writers started to write about middle and lower class daily life, to portray individuals in that period. It was believed that writers could improve the world, meaning that when individuals would read and see how life is evolving, they would try to fix their behavior. Mark Twain started writing about real stories that involved real characters and real life scenarios. It first took place in Europe, after that the United States. War World I had a big impact on the artistic movement due to the fact that it brought fear, death, growth, money, prosperity, and so much more. Literature started breaking out from tradition and writers could freelance, have their own look, and experiment with their own point of view. Modernism grew even more, when individuals realized that nothing would ever be the same as it used to be before WWI. Technology each day was growing more and more. Technology was being a big influenced, as well as the youth started to create an attitude towards free expression. A few writers who are known as modernism writers are F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and William Faulkner. All three where recognized by something unique on their writing, for example Faulkner was known for his unique experimental style, who would approach his writing as music, use different styles, and fragments. One of the writers of British modernism is James Joyce, who is most known for his book named Ulysses.
