Malcolm X One movie I decided to watch was Malcolm X. There were a few scenes that represented the essence of the movie. They include Malcolm in jail, and his death. Additionally, the movie confirmed my perspective on the issues presented in the film. Some of the historical events described in Malcolm X were able to be connected to our present problems. The first scene was in the beginning of Malcolm’s jail time. He meets a man named Baines. In a teaching session Baines has with Malcolm, Malcolm looks up black and white in the dictionary. He is surprised at the definitions he discovers. Baines tells Malcolm to, “take everything the white man says and use it against him.” Secondly, the next scene is shortly after the previously described. I knew that equality was a large issue in the time period of Malcolm’s life and the movie certainly showed that. When Malcolm spoke for the Nation of Islam, he would tend to stress the fact that Blacks were the first person to walk the earth. Additionally, when he went to the jail’s church, he confronted the Priest that Jesus was indeed a person of color. He was not the typical peace speaker. Some large speakers, such as Martin Luther King Jr, did not feel one group was better than the other. Malcolm’s thoughts were different as he believed that Blacks were superior. Malcolm was also not centered on peace. He decided that the best way to fight violence would be with violence. Because of his perspective on how things needed to be handled, that caused another problem of tension between him and other peace speakers. This was something new I learned while watching the film. I knew Malcolm was different from other speakers, but I did not know there was conflict between him and other Black
