A hero is a person who will defend others, regardless of the risk and consequences thrown their way. In story’s, heroes are looked at as those who have unhuman-like quality’s, such as super strength or the ability to fly, but that is not always the case. Malala Yousafzai was only fourteen years old when the world started calling her a hero. Much like the character Beowulf, she refused to back down. When wounded and weak, never gave up on others and inspired others to be brave. Besides any obstacles thrown their way, a hero will do whatever he can to protect those who cannot protect themselves and for what is right. Malala Yousafzia is an eighteen year old who has touched and inspired many lives at such a young age. When she was only fourteen years old, she became known as “one of the world’s most persuasive advocates for girls education (ST)”. Though she had many surgeries, put in a induced coma, and even had the left side of her face paralyzed (Bio), she continued to stand up for what she believed in. when the world heard of Malala’s story, it resulted in a massive out pour of support, she became the youngest person alive to receive the Noble Peace Prize and inspired others to do the same. Young women and men everywhere started to stand up for what they believed in. a nineteen year old student said, “This is not just Malala’s war, it’s a war between two ideologies, between the light of education and the darkness”(ST). Malala inspired other people to stand up and be brave just as Beowulf inspired Wiglaf during his last battle. “But within one heart sorrow welled up: a man of worth the claims of kinship cannot be denied….
