Ai) Describe the main features of a mosque

A mosque is mainly used as a place of worship for Muslims to pray to Allah. Not all mosques are the same, they vary from place to place. Some mosques are big and expensive whilst some other mosques are small and cheap. All mosques are different but are yet similar in some ways for example; all mosques are a place of worship.

Some mosque have a tall minaret in which the Muezzin uses it to call the Adthaan, informing nearby Muslims that the time of prayer has come and they must quickly start their prayer. This is one of the most important features of a mosque because without the minaret the Muezzin would not be able to call out the Adthaan, prevent many Muslims being able to tell if it is time for prayer or not. Nowadays, the Adthaan is not as convenient as in the past because in today’s modern times, people have watches and clocks which tell them when prayer is due.

A dome is important in mosques in hot countries because the dome structure circulates cool air around the mosque preventing people from dehydrating from sweating in the Mosque. It also prevents the atmosphere inside the mosque from being humid which can cause people to feel and think negatively which is why most mosques in hot countries have a dome structure. Another bonus of having a dome structure in a mosque is that it helps to amplify the Imam’s voice during prayers and Islamic talks. This helps people who are sitting at the far back of the mosque hear what the Imam is reading from the Qu’ran or listen to the Islamic talk which the imam provides.

As well as this, Zakah is one of the Pillars of Islam, and Muslims are obligate to comply with Zakah. Mosque help Muslims to give Zakah as the Mosques distributes to the poor helping Muslims to fulfil their Zakah.

Going to mosque helps to keep your faith in Islam alive, for example, listening to the Khutbah gives you a better understanding on Islam, what Islam is about and the boundaries in which Muslims are obligated to not defy intentionally. Learning more about Islam helps to fortify your belief as you will know what the benefits are in the Afterlife could and this would make you be more aware of your actions, making you a better Muslims as you will be working harder to please Allah. So overall going to mosques helps to make you a better Muslim.
