Low Voltage Cubicle Switchboard (LVSB) Test and Inspection

For a Low Voltage Cubicle Switchboard (LVSB), test such as visual inspection, site test before and after connection of incoming supply are performed. The following steps describe the processes involved for each mentioned test.

Visual Inspection The process of visual inspection may vary from one switchboard to another depending on the specifications provided by the manufacturer. Components include are type tested assembly construction; dropper/risers and main busbar; harmonic filter, capacitor bank for power factor correction; switches of air circuit breakers/fuse; hydraulic truck; switch for automatic changeover; cables and busbar that are outgoing/incoming; devices for protection and instrumentation; potable grounding devices; rubber insulation mat; and operating handles/keys .

Site Test before Connection of Incoming Supply Several tests comprise the main test involved. This may or may not include test for dielectric, insulation, secondary and primary injection, current transformer polarity, contact resistance, temperature rise limits, and functional test of all devices. Indeed, the connection is needed to be just be tight enough but how is this connection judged? With different factors such as long-term stress, magnetization effects, vibration or room atmosphere, infrared thermography can be used to check for correct tightness of the connection To measure the temperature of the connection. According to NEC standards, temperature between 65oC -75oC is the allowable temperature of the system dependent to the size and rating of the conductor connected.
