Is the ability to graduate a year early too good to be true? That is false. In high schools all across the nation, schools have a system where students can take more classes in a semester and graduate a year early. This is amazing for students who are academically capable. “You can get a head start on college or work”(Andersen). It can also open new doors to life experiences.
The amazing thing about this is that students may not only graduate early, but can take college courses while in high school. This may seem like a little much on a high school students plate, but it has shown great success throughout the country. Allowing students to do this may also let them build the maturity for a college classroom, which will help them to learn better.

They have time to relax and decide and if they want to go to colleges. They will also have time to do stuff with their family. They may also have time to do other things such as hobbies, sports, or just to prepare for the big world. If you want an extra year to enjoy your life and have a head start on college I would suggest looking into graduating early.
The only problem that other sources have been able to find with students graduating early os that they may not be mature enough for a college classroom. For twelve years these kids have changed from children to young adults. It has also been told that some students have had a quite lengthy disciplinary history.
The reason it has been said that early graduation students are not ready for a college classroom is perhaps that people are intimidated of a younger student on the same education level. This could be a common problem that we should not allow to block students from seeking a higher education. In the end graduating early is worth it. Yes, you miss out on some experiences you may of had as a senior the following year but you get more valuable ones instead. You begin a new life and a fresh start. During high school everyone just complains about how badly they want to graduate and leave their high school life behind and as a early graduate; you get to accomplish that. It’s a little sad to know you’re finally getting that chance to leave. But it leaves you at peace in a way and also with excitement.
Some students would argue that a college education is not a vital aspect of the future of children because it is too much schooling, costs too much, and it is not needed for their future. Every year, thousands and thousands of students graduate from high school ready to embark one of life’s greatest adventures. Many students feel as if high school was tough and an awkward time for them. Some will encounter times when bullies are rude and nasty to them. Others will not have to deal with any negativity and have a great experience, but will not want to go back. After high school life goes on, many students choose different paths other than to continue their education but most of the students that graduate from high school are given the opportunity to attend colleges and universities all around the nation and obtain an education. Although not all students will get to fulfill this opportunity due to different circumstances, such as the expense or some of them may already have a family to take care of and have to go straight to work after graduation. First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. For example, if a student is enrolled in four college courses and is in class a minimum of four hours the student should spend at least four to six hours of studying. The majority of people in today’s society, strongly believe that our generation is obligated to take on college education right after high school. It is common for a person who does not choose the college path to be considered “too dumb or too lazy” (Murray 253). Most students with their first choice being college after high school believe that it’s beneficial and will be very valuable for their future career choice but not all students have that same mindset. High school should also be extended to five years because this would also help them become more mature. A year can do a lot maturity wise. For example, if you think about how you were a year ago, you could say that you were almost a completely different person. This could be an advantage for college because if the students are more mature the students will be more responsible. That is very important for college because in college you're basically on your own and no one is going to be reminding you what you have to or don’t have to do, it all depends on you and your decisions. I think that there is a lot of pressure on high school students to pick a higher education, and it’s starting to make a lot of them stressed out. College tuition is already at such a high cost that it would be very detrimental if a student were to change their mind, often leaving them in insurmountable debt. And, there is often this stigma about students taking a year off before they head off to college or university, this again adds the the pressure to attend post-secondary. Finally, I feel that having a high school student pick a possible future occupation while they are still not sure what it is that they want in life. A side note, many teachers tell me that you don’t go to college to have job security later in life, but rather that you go to college to learn skills; the opposite is so ingrained in my student head that I feel that I have to go to school so I don’t fail in life. With all of this going on, colleges are getting ever harder to gain admission to.

When a person graduates high school, they will have completed at least 13 years of school. Though a Gap Year may seem intriguing, people are scared that if they get away from the habits and schedule that they form in school, they will get “off track”. Not going directly into college after high school is beneficial. Such examples include, but are not limited to: getting a year away from school and coming back more focused, it helps a person decide their future, looks impressive on future resumes, it becomes more acceptable, and students get the opportunity to learn about different cultures.

One might find that he or she is more interested in learning after taking a year off. The key is to stay motivated about going to college and pursuing a career that he or she really wants for his or her future. Students who take a year off and go to college may end up performing stronger academically because they have taken a much needed break. If going to college is what one really wants out of life, then taking a year off will only reinforce that.
