Is the City of Atlantis a Myth or Real?

Believed to be literally swallowed by the sea, Atlantis is a mysterious, advanced society that seems to have just vanished. Although some say Atlantis is a myth, there is reliable proof that Atlantis is a myth, there is reliable proof that Atlantis really did exist, and is more than just a myth. The idea of this “vanishing city” first came from Plato, who began discussing this legendary civilization in 355 B.C. Atlantis was a powerful and somewhat greedy civilization established by Poseidon (the god of the sea). They were highly advanced for that period of time (9000 years before Plato’s birth) or in the Holoscene era. Atlantis was destroyed in this era as well. The ways of destruction vary greatly, but the most commonly accepted idea is that Atlantis was destroyed in a great flood because Poseidon was angry at what his people had become. Now, some believe the whole concept of Atlantis is bogus and that it never even existed. Although some of the more exaggaerrated statements such as: “Poseidon destroyed the island because he was angry!” may not be true, there is enough evidence to conclude this story is much more than a myth.

Thesis: Atlantis not only fascinated Plato but modern scholars as well who are now deeming it more than a myth because of its possible location(s), plausible destruction, and the physical evidence of this forgotten city.

Proof of Atlantis lies in the very fact that various stories from different people all say the same tale. However the 1st person who began telling this story was Plato, a very scholarly man. Plato described the island as very detailed and grand. It laid on an island nearly 340 miles long from east to west. The actual city of Atlantis covered a vast expanse of 300 miles. ...

...New Orleans is currently experiencing rising sea levels which may lead to a new sinking New Orleans. While we hope not, the possibility is there. Plus the current day tsunamis can show how fast destruction can happen when it comes to the huge ocean gushing over the earth. There are some theories and physical evidence that are proved wrong or are misguided. These wrong findings help the naysayers to say “see, we told you that it doesn’t exist!.” However, as with any science, there is a lot of trial and error before the correct answer is found.

Atlantis is a city out there somewhere buried with its treasures still waiting to be discovered. Even though there is no definitive evidence yet of Atlantis, with 70 percent of earth being covered by water, it wouldn’t be right to think that there may not be new discoveries in the future of this mysterious empire.
