People used to say that a college degree is the gateway to success, but with the rising costs of this education is it still worth it? Some students say yes but the ugly truth is the cost of college is increasing rapidly leading to more and more debt, and this including many other things is the reason people ask is college worth it. Another important question to ask is how one would go answering that question, because it is a hard question to answer it is still a subject of debate. While everyone's answer to that question may be different there is one undeniable truth that there are both pro's and con's of going to college. The pro's of going to college, they have been cemented into the minds of so many but let's review them. The first one is the debt that students usually have to get just to finish school, and this debt prevents people from doing things. For example " of recent alumni with more than $25,000 in student debt 43 percent said it had caused them to delay buying a home, 40 percent said it had delayed their purchase of a car" (just half of the graduates strongly agree that college is worth the cost, Blumenstyk), so taking on debt to finish school has it's drawbacks, but what are other con's of going to college? Well another con about going to college is what you study, for example "engineers and computer scientists do best" and "courses in the art or humanities offer vast spiritual rewards, of course but less impressive material ones" (it depends on what you study not where, the economist). There is a thin line of people who should and should not attend college. That is a huge decision that could either be the best decision they have ever made or it could be a costly mistake causing thousands of dollars of debt to pile up. There are reasons such as costly tuitions, unnecessary fees, no guarantee of a career, piling of debt, and questionable educational quality, that lead me to believe that college is not worth the money people pay for it.
Is college worth it? This is a topic that has been heavily debated for years, and years to come. Students who a college education and graduate have many more life changing opportunities than those who don 't; the debates of studying after high school has been ongoing for countless years, but statistics have proven that majority to all students who go to college achieve more life goals than the average high school graduate. They receive better work benefits, life skills, higher paying salaries, etc. There is a downside to everything in life such as debt is to college education. However, the price students pay is insufficient compared to what the benefits they receive after graduating from college.
For the past few months I have been attending college as a first year, but recently I have started to ask myself is college really worth it? Or is there a better alternative other than going on the traditional path to college? Furthermore if there are alternative path instead of attending college, why aren’t we taking them? In many situations we do have the option of acquiring special licenses and certifications that can get us the careers we desire, but without the need to attend college, but if we can do things like getting licenses and certificates then why do most of us choose to go to college knowing that there is a better option? Even more, a better option that will probably not cost you as much in the long run. Yet millions upon millions of students make the choice of going to college every year, for this I ask why?

Ever since I was little I have been told to go to College. I have been told that with college I will get a really good education to make a difference, and to have a good living. What I wasn’t told throughout the years is if college is worth the cost and how much money I will need to go to college and get the education I want or need to succeed in life. In many cases college is indeed worth the cost, but with having to take student debts out to pay it all, it is a lot of money to be taking out as a loan to have to pay for it. Most Colleges that people will decide to go to will require to have to take a loan amount of five figures or more.
