Malcolm X once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Since kindergarten has stepped a foot through the door of the school, students have always been told that the only way to get through life is with a college degree. Students had always agreed to the concept, but that was until the founders of Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter and many more,did not graduate from college. In fact, they were all dropouts. Questioning the norms of college being the only gateway to the successful middle class, is college worth investing the hard-earned money and valuable tie into or not? Going to a prestigious college can lead to greater earning potential, more career opportunities, and greater job security.
College graduates are more likely to have higher salaries compared to others. Based on data by The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Current Population on People, “People with master's degree earn about two times as much money a week than someone who went to college and has no degree.”The ability to earn more money in the future encourages people to get a higher education. With higher education one is the more likely to make more money, hence making college worth it.A recent study from Georgetown University By Peter Osborn said, “On average, college graduates earn $1 million more in earnings over their lifetime.” Having a college education can be more prosperous because it ensures that your financial level stays the same, never wavering below what it should be. College graduates have a higher chance of having a long-term career. With that long-term career comes pay raises and bonus from their employers. College graduates are more likely to be more passionate about their career because they put money and effort into obtaining their degrees,which leads to a higher paying job.
