Going to college and attaining a degree is a milestone many people dream of, but is it really necessary? With the cost of tuition rising, and unemployment rate rising for college graduates, many people ask the question, is college a necessity or a luxury? Our society today is based on so many variations of jobs; most of them needing a college degree, such as doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Receiving a college education is much like having a pair of shoes, to be without it places immediate judgement on one's character. If you receive a college education, you're less likely to smoke. Those with more education are more likely to exercise than those with less education. College-educated adults are also less likely than others to be obese or have obese children. Among all racial groups, college graduates are more likely to report their health as “very good” or “excellent” than any other level of education. Those with college degrees have better health, exercise more, and smoke less. Going to college teaches you to be more intellectual and to push yourself when no one else is there. Receiving a college education isn't mandatory if you are planning to live a happy and successful life, it simply prepares you for the workplace and allows you to learn from your mistakes before you are out in the real world, it simply just opens up more doorways for you. College isn't for everyone, some people are better off from learning by themselves, off in the real world.
