Improvisation is the act of improvising, or of composing, uttering, executing, or arranging anything without any previous preparation. Improvisation has multiple concepts that can be learn and they can be used in multiple real life situations. There are concepts such as engaging in play, listening and awareness, having trust and doing risks as well as being able to have freedom and structure. There is one concept that can tie together all concepts on improvisation together is playing with others and having synergy with them. If a person cannot participate to the best of their abilities or step outside their comfort zone then you will not be able to experience the benefits of actually being a part of a team. During the week of listening we conducted a exercise that consisted of one person closing their eyes and the other making noises to direct them around the room. If a person was following the other persons noises and did not express enough emotion or feeling into the game then not only would it have shown that the person is disinterested but it could affect the partners motivation as well. Another part of synergy is the amount of trust that we are willing to place on others. The trust that we allow to give to others can cause ourselves to take a risk and build a relationship with that other person. “Trust, then, involves the willingness to take a risk that someone or something is trustworthy. Most of us are willing to take risks in exact proportion to how much we trust in the outcome” (Waterman 60). Once a sense of trust is embodied in the other person then playing together becomes more in enjoyable for everyone involved. For synergy it the cooperation of people, substances, or other agents to produce a collective effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. A similar idea can be seen in Ellen Waterman’s reading Improvised Trust: Opening Statements there is a quote that states “All improvisation is social. For some, the goal of improvisation is to tap into something larger than ourselves, to work in concert with others to achieve a harmonious, unified expression” (Waterman 61). The idea of being a part of something greater than yourself is beneficial since you are able to contribute to a group which can help build skills such as communication, cooperation and building relationships with
