What is the value of a professional organization - like NASPA - in the professional development of graduate students and new professionals?
NASPA has a proven significance in the advancement of practitioners through innovative and engaging methods intended to empower individuals, professionals, and field experiences. Organizations such as NASPA, in my observation as a graduate student, serve as an example to the investments put forth to improve graduate students and professionals. Empowering accumulated knowledge and experiences for individuals leads to industry best practices with scholars, colleagues, and university offices. In particular, NASPA provides individualized access for graduate students to develop skills at the forefront of student affairs. From research opportunities to leadership events, enlightened organizations demonstrate a vital source of knowledge and vision for professionals and graduate students.

In this capacity as a Graduate Associate, I intend to gain skills related to outreach and development in student affairs. Mainly, constructing programs and promoting services for classmates which best fit their needs for professional advancement. I anticipate being able to further advance my skills related to evaluation as it relates to programs and methods. It is in my view that evaluating programs and projects from the beginning is critical to the efficacy and efficiency within higher education.
