America was founded by immigrants, everyone is a descendant from an immigrant. A Quilt of a Country was about how everyone in America is so different and diverse. Also how everyone a long time ago only wanted to be with people like them. That it was very taboo to be with someone from a different country who was different from you. The story The Immigrant Contribution was about how immigrants were a big contribution to America, and all Americans have been immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Also, that the American economy has benefited from the immigrants who came here and contributed to our country like in the steel industry, the meat packing industry and electricity. Overall immigrants make up America and if everyone was the same, America wouldn’t be the great country that it is today. Even though both passages are very different, they both talk about how immigrants have changed America for the better. They talked about how people are all different and that it’s a good thing or America would be very different. They both also talk about how everyone is an immigrant or a descendant of an immigrant. The Quilt of a Country was more about the growing of our country, and about how people were more uptight, less tolerant and they just wanted to be with people who were like them . Now our country has changed and people are more accepting than they use to be.You used to not be able to marry someone who wasn’t the same ethinisty as you were.
