This image was taken during World War II in 1944 in France during the liberation of France. This image shows two soldiers consoling a little French with a small puppy. This image shows many representations of war. In this image, war is represented as destructive but it also shows how this destruction can bring people together and form a sense of comradery between the strangers and soldiers portrayed in the image. The use of juxtaposition, proximity and the composition of the background and foreground gives us this representation. The proximity of the soldier holding the puppy and the small girl is very significant in this image. The background is composed of destroyed buildings and a destroyed gate, that are surrounded by rubble, which is probably the result of a recent battle. This reinforces the idea that was is very destructive and can destroy people’s lives. However, in the foreground we see the two soldiers kindling consoling the little girl with a puppy. Since the rubble is directly behind the girl we assume that she was affected by the destruction that has been caused and the soldiers are consoling her for her loss. The studies show the thirty-five percent lost a parent and twenty percent had lost a sibling. Ninety-five percent had witnessed a shooting exchange; eighty-two percent had witnessed an Aerial bombing. But the fact that stun most people is what these children have seen first-hand. Almost ninety-three percent have seen a dead body, sixty-seven percent have witnessed people getting tortured and sixty-three percent have seen people murdered. These are very confronting statistics, since many adults have not seen what these children have seen. Imagine that you are in their position, what would you seeing someone close to you being severely injured? These kids do not have a choice, they must act immediately and reap the repercussions
