Stress is a factor in most American lives. Stress can be classified as a specific way a student responds to multiple pressures of life simultaneously. When a highschool student is loaded with dual enrollment credits and after school activities, the requirements for each add up. The stress, or a feeling of struggling, seems to surround normal thoughts. Stress is a feeling that envelops life, alters normal function, and hinders relationships.

Stress envelops life in multiple ways such as when work tasks, school tasks, family tasks, and hobby activities are given in the same time frame. While cooking for a younger sibling, the teenager may forget to turn the noodles down to low heat. That might happen because the student’s mind had drifted to the multiple distractions introduced during the day. The normal everyday function of simply cooking was altered by stress from the day. Stress could be defined as dwelling on a task that alters normal function.

Stress hinders relationships because stress, like hunger, can shorten a temper. After a long day, most people are not as considerate towards others. A teenager can have a sharper attitude towards their parents after a particularly daunting day when stress is introduced. After multiple days, the relationship between the teenager and parents is affected. That type of effect can also happen between a student and teacher or a coach and athlete.

Enveloping life, altering normal function, and hindering relationships are all effects of stress on life. Although stress is a large factor of the average American’s life, the effects can be balanced by relaxing and having fun. Stress is not relaxing, but can be a motivator to relax.
