The novel that has had the most significant impact on me is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This is a wonderful and powerful story that provides many important life lessons, valuable to any age group. This particular novel gives teenager’s insight on what it is like to live with cancer, and it is very heartwarming. I can relate to the main character, Hazel, because it is known that she “walks lightly upon the earth,” and I resemble that characteristic. I am also a vegetarian as Hazel is, I am afraid of hurting others, and I tend to let my fears overcome me. Because of this, I do not leave much of an impact on the world, but I am alright with that. I was able to relate to her in other ways as well, including how we are both 16 years old. This made it easy to empathize with her because Hazel and I are at the same stage in our lives where we are trying to figure things out, and sometimes it can be difficult. She is sarcastic at times and says stuff she does not mean to her family, but they are continuously there for her, and mine is there for me. The Fault in Our Stars also reminds me of specific events that occurred in my own life. A few years ago, my grandma was battling pancreatic cancer and it was very painful for me to watch her suffer. The text was certainly accurate in terms of explaining the feeling of losing a loved one to cancer. There is one book that can, and does affect everyone that reads is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. John Steinbeck is a very interesting person, and one that did not even graduate from college. New York seems to be the city of new beginnings and for Steinbeck it was just what he needed. He got a big reality check when he tried to become a free lance writer and that did not work out the way he had hoped it would. He then went back to California and published both short stories and novels. Steinbeck got heavily critiqued on his first novels and considers his best work The Grapes of Wrath by far. Since this was such a successful novel and one that needed to be shared with more people they made a movie based on the book, but left out some key parts at the end of the novel. They left out these last chapters because of some key reasons and when you read the book you begin to understand why they could not have put these words into a picture. John Steinbeck creates a picture and feeling at the end of the novel that is almost unbearable to read and leaves you with a feeling of dread but, that is what The Grapes of Wrath is all about.

Not simply did Hazel want to live the normal life of a 16-year-old girl, but she additionally struggled with what it would probably be like for her parents after she passed away. While Hazel attended a church support class for cancer survivors, she met a boy that was one year older than her, Augustus Waters. While Augustus had a kind of cancer that caused him to lose his leg in addition to wear a prosthetic, it also had a survival rate that was much higher compared to Hazel's.

They go on a trip to Amsterdam and meet Peter Van Houten, who is getting a little lonely. Cancer affects Hazel Grace, Augustus Waters, and their families deeply, it represents the lost, hope, and surprise of cancer often, but this is not only true in books,it also affects people in real life, parents start to view their kids differently, and the children start to view themselves as nothing but disease, and the culture they once had starts to change. Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace each have their own struggles, Hazel suffers from thyroid cancer and is terminal, Augustus had been cured, but it popped back making his body full of cancer, he as well ending up with terminal cancer. Often organizations and people would give them a little bit more because they are kids who had inevitability of death to look to. They both having to deal with the fact that they never knew what was coming, or if Hazel would lose Augustus first or if Augustus will lose Hazel first, though eventually that fact became obvious. Ultimately, Hazel initially disliked sympathy from peers primarily because she wanted to be a normal child, but as the novel progressed, Hazel became aware of her surroundings and realized that the blissful events in her life happened because of her illness. Condolences seemed to be excessively used through Hazel Lancaster’s life, which was a fundamental aspect of The Fault In Ours Stars, from the Make-A-Wish Foundation to family friends and strangers. The obscurity of being placated with sensitivity and excessive solace can at first be seen as causing depression and sorrow, but later on can be perceived as a contingent in an ill person’s life.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin revolves mainly around the subject of slavery and how slaves were treated unfairly. We learn about how slavery was once lawful in our country, the United States of America, and how our government punished people who helped fugitive slaves escape.

In The Fault in Our Stars, both Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace Lancaster are dealt a far-from ideal situation for life. At the young age of thirteen, Hazel was diagnosed with nearly incurable stage four thyroid cancer with metastasis forming in her lungs. By some miracle, she survived; but, she does not thrive at all. In fact, she struggles severely, carrying around an oxygen tank wherever she goes, and even still she has to get fluid drained out of her lungs every so often. Gus, on the other hand, was diagnosed with 85% curable osteosarcoma and had to get his leg amputated. This ended his promising basketball career, and even still the cancer ended up taking more of his life; in fact the whole thing. Though Augustus and Hazel would have both wished for easier lives, sometimes what is real is not ideal; and in their case, what was real wasn’t even close to being ideal. As Augustus’s life came to an end, he always spoke about it being his personal dream to be remembered and not dying in vain.
