For Christians it is compulsory to be involved in society as their lord, Jesus Christ commands them to. In order to be accepted into heaven they need to follow Jesus’ example and emerge themselves within society and work to meet the needs of others. In the ‘Good Samaritan’ it says, “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” Jesus reinforces this by telling the parable of a Samaritan that helps a robbed man and then says, “Go do likewise”. This shows that in order for Christians to be spiritually fulfilled they need to help others as much as they help themselves. Christians involving themselves actively in society allows them to be challenged by evil and witness acts that disregard God and Jesus’ teachings. In John 8, Jesus tells the people who are willing to stone a woman that committed adultery “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” This portrays the purity of Jesus and his decision to allow someone who has committed a sin to redeem herself within Christ and God. Each year a majority of Australians celebrate Christmas and Easter, these century old traditions and rituals would not exist without Christianity. These holidays play such a major part in our culture and revolutionised the way we spend time with our loved ones. Because of this Christians have a right to be involved in Australian society as they celebrate these same holidays but for them Christmas and Easter have a deeper, more spiritual meaning. Overall, Christianity being involved in society does not affect anyone in a negative way, as Christians are taught good morals and strong principles. The way Christians are taught can be seen predominately in Christian schools where young people are taught the principles in an environment of peace and tranquillity. The good in which Christianity achieves can be seen through the amount of Catholic schools alone in Australia, the total amount for just one denomination is 1710. These schools teach children to carry on the work of Jesus and do good in the world, which is evident through the indigenous and homeless programs ran initiated by the church and carried on through people of the Christian
