I visited St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The denomination is Eastern Greek Orthodox, and it locates at Summit Avenue St. Paul. The church is small, and the scenery is beautiful. To be honest, I was very nervous as I stepped through the door of the church. However, the unfamiliar music moves my heart in ways that I could not describe. My eyes were drawn to the icons that covered the walls and the ceiling. The icons were full of colors, and I thought that they were beautiful. At the same time, I get these spiritual feelings as I looked at the different icons. I realized that the icons might serve many purposes to the church because it conveys spiritual messages to me. He told me that is called Byzantine music. It is the liturgical music of the Holy Greek Orthodox Church. I’m surprised that the priest would go around with the smoker and chant to bring prosperity and health to those who needed. Moreover, I find it very interesting that the congregation kisses the Bible by walking and sitting next to it while taking the communion. I’m also surprised that Greek was spoken most of the time during the service. Also, during the Lord’s Prayer, I was able to cite it with the congregation because it was in English. The church plays a crucial role in the parishioners' life because it teaches the Gospel of Jesus to bring people closer to God. It encourages them to love and forgive others as God love and forgive us. The church’s role in the community is to help people need and be tolerant of other beliefs. The different icons that covered the walls and the ceiling show the basic beliefs of the church because it nurtures the parishioners’ spirituality through the worship.
