Muhammad was the greatest man in the Middle East, he had not only started an empire in Arabia, but also founded the religion of Islam. In his legendary life, Muhammad started as a merchant, but later became the prophet of Allah, and spread teachings of the religion of Islam all over Arabia.
Muhammad was born in 570 BC in Makkah with his father already dead. Right after his birth, his mother sent Muhammad to a nomad family in a desert. Later Muhammad went back to live with his mom at age of 5, but she died soon after, so Muhammad became an orphan. Muhammad’s grandpa took care of him afterward. When Grandpa died, Muhammad’s uncle took care of Muhammad and Muhammad went trading with his uncle at the age of 12. When he grew up, Muhammad became an honest trader. Muhammad worked for a widow as a young man, and Muhammad married her at age of 25.

According to Muhammad himself, once he prayed in a cave and angel Gabriel visited him, who told Muhammad that he’s the messenger of Allah, or God. That was when the faith of Islam begin. Around 613 B.E, Muhammad began to try largely spreading the teaching of God, causing him to gain more followers. However, most Arabian didn’t joined him, but rejected Muhammad. Then Makkans, the powerful city leader who rejected Muhammad started a boycott to make Muhammad’s followers give up Islam. As Muhammad lived his merchant life, one night he walked into a cave and saw the angel Gabriel. She told Muhammad that Allah had picked him to be the prophet to communicate his words to his people. Muhammad thought he was crazy but Khadijah consoled him and told him it was real. Gabriel continued to reveal more messages to Muhammad for the next 22 years. Elijah Muhammad, son of a sharecropper, was born into poverty in Sandersville, Georgia, on October 7, 1897 (biography.com). After moving to Detroit in 1923, he met W. D. Fard, founder of the black separatist movement Nation of Islam (biography.com). Muhammad became Fard’s successor from 1934-75 and was known for his controversial preaching (biography.com). Muhammad faced many challenges during his life span. He declared that Fard had been an incarnation of Allah and that he himself was now Allah’s messenger (biography.com). For forty-one year’s Muhammad spread the word of the Nation of Islam, slowly but steadily attracting new members (biography.com). Muhammad built the religion from a small fringe group into a large and complex organization that attracted controversy along with its new prominence (biography.com).
Islam and the worship of Allah (god) began with Muhammad and his revelations that lasted for 23 years of his life from (610 C.E.- 623 C.E.). In the Islamic religion it is believed that he was the last prophet sent by Allah (god) and this made all his teachings into to Law and are looked at as the will of God. These messages were given to him through the archangel Gabriel, in a kind of continuation to the Jewish Torah and Christian Bible, which the Qur’an shares some similarities or past “history” with them such as the belief in Abraham and Jesus as a prophet, but in the eye’s of Mohammad the Jews and Christians had fallen astray from the real teaching of god.

Many different things motivated the warriors to expand, but above all, the riches they would gain from the people of the Fertile Crescent encouraged them to expand.
The prophet Muhammad had a significant impact on the rise and spread of the religion Islam. According to World Civilizations, Muhammad “began receiving revelations transmitted from Allah,” and later these revelations became holy scripts in the Quran. Muhammad started off with very few followers but as the faith of Allah started to spread, he gained more followers and he became a threat to Mecca’s rulers. As mentioned in World Civilization, “in 622 Muhammad left Mecca for Medina where his skilled leadership brought new followers.” In Medina, Muhammad became the religious authority in the area and he used this power to conquer Mecca, a holy place for Islamic believers. By the time of his death, he was able to have created a religious empire that controlled all of the Arabian Peninsula.

Muhammad, the founder of Islam and member of Quraish tribe, was born in Mecca in 570. He was an Orphaned throughout his early life but met a rich widow who he later married. By 622 he had successfully gained enough converts to start his migration, known as the Hijrah. Marking the beginning of Muhammad’s movement. Muhammad changed the name of Yathrib to Medina (“City of the Prophet”) and established himself as the town’s ruler. Muhammad’s teachings are so important because they established the rituals and practices that help to ensure the salvation of all Muslims. These teachings are preserved in the sacred scripture of Islam. The Qur’an is considered a direct link with Muhammad. It is also unlike most books of the Bible because it takes the form of poetry, drawing on ancient genres of Arabic song.
In about 610 C.E., Muhammad went to pray in a cave in the mountains. According to Islamic teachings, the mountains were the place where Muhammad received the call to be a prophet, or messenger of Allah. When Muhammad was in the cave, he reported of being visited by the angel Gabriel who brought revelations, or revealed teachings, from God. Muhammad ran away but Gabriel said that he was the messenger of god. Muhammad told this to Khadijah and he was the first one to convert into Islam.
After ‘The Year of Sorrow’ in which both Muhammad’s uncle- Abu Talib and wife- Kadijah died Muhammad is warned by the angel Gabriel that the situation is getting too dangerous for him in Mecca. “Muhammad knew the faith must find expression in a community which would insure its external force and the opportunity to prevail against opposition” (Cragg). It is at this point that Muhammad is invited to become a leader in Medina (622ce).
The book Muhammad, by Michael Cook, describes the impact Muhammad has had on the world as we know it. It explains why Muhammad chose the paths he did, and how certain laws came about. Cook offers a very objective view of the laws and policies Muhammad outlined in the Koran, and the traditions that are carried on that supplement his written law.
Muhammad's qualities facilitated him to be successful at the beginning to spread the word of God.
