Did Martin Luther King Jr.’s dreams come true? A lot has changed since 1963 when Dr. Martin Luther King gave his famous speech “I have a dream”. There is still racism today all around the country. I personally don’t think his dreams have all come true yet. Starbucks recently was involved in a case where two African American men went into a Starbucks store to use the restroom, the manager told them they had to purchase something or they had to leave. They were waiting for someone when the manager called the police who escorted the men out of the coffee shop. The question is was this because of their skin color, I like many people think it was because of their skin color. More unarmed minorities than white people are killed every year by police. Often these police are not convicted or prosecuted for use of force. Last year 987 people were killed by police and even more, people will likely be killed in 2018. In March a man was fired for asking his boss to stop calling him boy. Dennis Bellamy who worked at Lee Partyka Chevrolet as a salesman believes that he was fired because he asked not to be called boy. Joe Gallagi, the general manager, reportedly called black employees and workers “boy” and “good boy”. Joe also said he would take away bonuses from any employee who didn’t like what Joe called them. Bellamy sued the company for civil rights violations. There are a few things that have changed. One thing that I believe Martin Luther King would enjoy and be proud of is that all races of children go to school together. The kids all learn together, play together, and become friends even if they are different races. Children now can play together as he dreamed and fought
