Islam was a religion that was founded in the 7th century by Muhammad. Back in the seventh century CE. They were two empires that dominate the area that we call today the Middle East; those two were the Byzantine-Greek-Christian Empire and the Sassand-Prsian-Zoraastrian Empire. The Arabian Peninsula lay between the two. The merchant called Muhammad began to have religious visions around 610, and by the time, he died in 632, “all Arabia had accepted his creed of Islam” (p.22). It took one century later for his followers to control what we now call, Palestine, Syria, North Africa, Egypt, Spain, and part of France. When it came to the clan, they expected loyalty from their members and in return, they would be provided with support and protection. Some Arabs had some religious rules and rituals in common, for example they kept three months of the year sacred, in which during that time all fighting’s will stop in order to peacefully attend holy ceremonies. While, some other Arabs would find urbanized lifestyle of the cities to be immoral and corrupt. When it comes to Muhammad’s revelations, they were written down by his followers, during his lifetime and were organized into chapters called sura, which was after his death. The remarks of the Qur’an are the sacred book of Islam, and the only remarks left by Muhammad. Muslims around the world see the Qur’an as the direct words of God to his prophet Muhammad. They also have the obligation of the jihad to strive or struggle to lead a virtuous life and to also spread God’s rule and law, the Islamic belief of “striving in the path of God” is very similar to the central feature of Muslim doctrine of the coming Day of Judgment. They also believe that with conviction, the Day of Judgment will actually come and all of the actions and thoughts of Muslims should be oriented towards the rewards of heaven. There is also the five pillars of Islam, in which Muslims must recite a profession of faith in God and by following the sacred law of praying, fasting, giving aims to the poor, and pilgrimage to Mecca, the individual will merit the rewards of heaven, meaning that they could get salvation. The Qur’an also forbids alcoholic beverages, gambling, many types of food such as pork, it condemns business usury, it limits the number of wives a man could have and it sets a strict sexual morality rules and rules for inheritance.
