What led to one of history’s most evil people’s growth in power? The article 1933 -- Hitler Comes to Power discusses how the Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to pay for World War I. Adolf Hitler saw this as an opportunity to bring the German people to his side by promising to solve their problems. Hitler later became Chancellor of Germany and started World War II with his conquest of Poland, causing the death of 48 million people and leaving Europe in ruins. Germany’s political and economic circumstances fueled Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party to rise to power causing conditions to worsen for “undesirables”. First of all, the rising popularity of the Nazi party led the democratic government to crumble. For example, “Having won more than than 37 percent of the vote in the previous year’s legislative elections, Hitler’s Nazi party had enough power to effectively paralyze Germany’s democratic government, which had been in place since 1919” (15). Hitler’s power was growing, but President Hindenburg was still more powerful than Hitler. Instead of stopping Hitler, Hindenburg made Hitler Chancellor of Germany.
