The most important day of my life was the day I was introduced to sports, specifically baseball. My world changed because sports are something I truly enjoy and are a great stress reliever for me. Although at that young age, I didn’t know it, but I became focused on achieving goals and working towards my future. I wanted to be better so I worked harder and listened to my parents and coaches. Practice paid off and I enjoyed getting recognized for my development. I anticipate that I will always be involved with some type of sport or another throughout my lifetime. Every time I play lacrosse I feel like I am a part of something greater than myself. Being a part of something greater than myself, being changed in my life forever has made me think and feel whenever I play lacrosse. When I was younger playing lacrosse was a learning experience. Playing with more skilled or less skilled girls in lacrosse and playing different positions except for one every game, practice and scrimmage all the time makes me get a different perspective. Playing lacrosse for quick sticks has changed my life forever.

I spend six days per week for twelve months straight practicing catching, throwing, and hitting a softball. My friends call me crazy when I have to leave their house at ten o’clock on a Friday night to go play in a midnight madness softball tournament. They think I am insane for travelling to away, out-of-state tournaments each weekend. However, ten years of competitive, travel softball and nearly nine hundred games have molded me into the person I am today. Many people do not understand why I spend the majority of my time playing competitive softball, and they fail to recognize that my entire identity is a result of this sport. However, I am aware that I would not be who I am without it.
For the past one hundred years in the United States, the best American past time was baseball. A typical game day would include a dad and son going to a game and catching a foul ball. But what happens if a war breaks out and the dads and the players on the team are enlisting? Who will play? During World War II, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was created. A movie called “A League of their Own” was based off of the AAGPBL. The director of the movie is somewhat accurate to what happened in the AAGPBL. The director of this movie was Penny Marshall (Barnes and Nobel). The producer of the film is Elliot Abbott and it was copyrighted on July 1st, 1992 (IMDb.com). The movie has three main characters. Tom Hanks plays Jimmy Dugan, Geena Davis plays Dottie Hinson, and Lori Petty plays Kit Keller. I really enjoyed this movie and I hope you might have some interest in it after you read this essay.

Baseball has become more important to me than gaming, and it still is that way to this present day. I still strive to keep accomplishing more in baseball, and hoping to keep my dreams alive. I also decided to keep playing, as many people do quit, and I kept trying harder in Baseball, and instead of giving up; to push past that and to keep getting farther in the sport. It changed what I do after school, it made me think about what I like to do in my spare time, to what I should do in my spare time.
Running around the bases was the best feeling ever, I had never thought this day would come. The game of baseball has always had an enormous impact on my life. Baseball has been an continuous pastime since I can remember. I have my father to thank for the passion I have for the game. Spending my childhood with my father in the field practicing grounders, pop ups, and hitting in the batting cage allowed myself to acquire a love for the game. I will never forget the feeling of suiting up into my uniform and taking the field with my with my teammates awaiting the unexpected experiences I would face. Anxiously I waited, dreaming of the unbelievable plays like making the game winning catch or a walk off homerun I would perform in my mind to translate onto the field. With my parents watching, I strived for my opportunity to make an impact on the game. That had always given me excitement in the game of baseball. The best part of baseball is that anything can happen no matter what the odds and your judgement is.
One diamond, four plates, nine players, a sweaty uniform, cleats, a bat, and a ball are the only things I’ve dreamt of since my first baseball practice when I was three years old. I remember the way it felt to smack the ball off of the tee and have everyone in the stands cheer and scream for me as I ran for first base as fast as I could and never wanting to leave the field even after it had gotten dark outside and all the field lights had been shut off. So when people ask me, “What are your plans after high school?” all I’ve ever known myself to say back was, “I’m not sure but it 'll have something to do with baseball.” With this being said, I have decided to be a baseball coach so I can pass down the knowledge I have for the game I love so much to people younger than me that love it just the same as I have and still do.
