Hope College Legacy

I have been given an awesome privilege to be able to call Hope College my home for the last four years. The memories I have had here will last a lifetime. From the friends I have developed with professors, students, to Phelps and Cook employees. I can honestly say that there has not been a bad experience with any of these people. It’s been awesome here at Hope! This experience has taught me many different life lessons and helped mold the legacy in which I feel I will leave behind when I am done. The legacy I want to leave behind entails one of respect, and hard working. I will tie all of these together will explicit examples from here at Hope and will end with how I plan to finish up on a positive note. The professors and student relationships

When I say respect for them I mean engaging in conversation and listening intently, having good eye contact, maintaining a look of interest, and asking good follow up questions. All of these examples show the individual you are invested with what they have to say. This in turn develops a positive relationship and it all stems from showing the person you respect them. This applies to every person you talk to and meet even if you disagree with someone. For example whenever I am in a lecture and the professor is talking about a particular subject I may not be interested in, I know that there is a mandatory level a respect that I need to attain in class. I will not be having a side conversation quietly, looking at my phone, or yawning. All of these examples will eventually be noticed from the Professor. I feel these efforts of mine do not go unnoticed because my professors have never had a problem with me and are very friendly outside of classes. As far as relationships

Not necessarily in the classroom but other areas. Areas that I think people can notice since I enjoy them so much. I am talking about exercising, maintaining jobs while going through school, and being there for my Greek events. The first example probably sounds phony or bogus to attach to a legacy. But for me I love to be in the gym, running and feeling good. I hope people have taken into account the amount of time I have spent working out and the hard work that I have put in to be confident in myself. The second part is centered for the people that know me on a deeper level. I am talking about my roommates, Greek brothers, and close friends at Hope. A lot of students are able to go to College and withstand a job and classes at the same time. However there are a lot of students who could not and would either need to drop courses or quit their job. For me this was the case this last semester I could not keep working twenty-five hours and maintain grades that I want, so I had to stop working and focus on school. But over my course at Hope I have had three jobs through out college during some challenging semesters and I think that it has taught me to balance school and work at the same time. The last example of hard work is being an active member of the Cosmopolitan Fraternity. It is a huge commitment to be apart of this organization and being at all of the meetings every Monday night.
