As a grade 9 student who attends Hillcrest School, i’ve noticed the number of students complaining about overwhelming amounts of homework they receive on a daily basis. I write to you in hopes to create a homework policy that most of the students that attend the school recognize as beneficial not only for them, but also for the parents and teachers. The homework policy comes will follow specific guidelines created so it's flexible for all students, grade one through grade 12.
I’ve spoken to my peers and other students from different grades and asked them to fill out a google forms survey to figure out their opinion on having consistent homework. 74 out of 82 students believe that having a homework policy is not only beneficial to the students,
Homework stems from the learning environment that students are exposed to in school. The students’ learning environment can be a place where the students may learn to be independent, contain a caring nature, contribute for the betterment of their fellow students, or become creative. In order to have a successful learning environment, it is essential to have management within the classroom to allow the students to follow rules, which enhances the ability to learn in the classroom (Froyen & Iverson, 1999). A classroom does not assign erroneous homework or assessments. Each assignment has a purpose to further the growth of students.
In order to promote participation in weekly homework, it is beneficial to reevaluate the current homework implementation. Transitioning homework into a more project based experience that is a collaborative experience for both student and their families will make homework more enjoyable and motivating. Questions considered will include:
“The typical student, even in high school does not spend more than an hour per day on homework” (Loveless NP). However, there is an ongoing dispute between critics on whether a lot of homework has more negative effects than positive effects, and vice versa. Homework is the greatest tool for student success, whether they realize it or not, homework is the key to success, it may not be to fun, but it has many positive effects. Homework improves academic success, it develops non-school skills, and it helps involve parents.
After studying the issue of homework, and the teacher’s influence upon it, I’ve come to realize homework may be overused in today’s educational system. I feel teachers are depending too much on outside education and not enough on in-class learning. Also, I believe the United States Government needs to develop a "homework standard". Educators in general need to come together and encourage students to learn in the classroom, and spend less time out of school doing countless hours of busy work. Teachers must look at the best interests of the students and base learning on communication in the classroom.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.

For years, people have wondered if the time spent of homework really helps as much as it claims to. Today, people talk about homework all over the world. Although homework enforces what the schools teach, it eats up time, causes stress, induces loss of sleep and research shows a way to control the homework load.

The controversial issue of homework is whether to have the teachers assign it to the students or let them get away with no homework. Research has shown that homework can be linked to better grades, improved standardized test scores, and more prepared students entering the post-secondary arena; however, this correlation is weak and the opposition has equal ammunition to support that there is no correlation between homework and academic success. There have been movements to abolish homework as well as movements to increase homework. Research has been done to show how homework has a negative effect on students as well as how it has a positive effect. Homework may be beneficial to academic success, but must have meaning to the student, must be measurable by the teacher, and must be manageable by both.
