Cosmetics throughout history have changed drastically throughout the years. From the years 1900-2017 makeup has evolved and has had an impact of the lives of many people through the decades. In the Edwardian Makeup Era (1900-1919), women wanted pale skin and a youthful complexion. Tan skin was seen as lower class, so many women would stay inside or in the shade all day. Facial creams were very popular and also rouge was applied to the cheeks, eyelids, and lips. Foundation was moisturizer, powder, rouge, and then more powder. Grey, brown, and lemon colored pastes were used as eyeshadow. On the lips, lip stain was popular to emulate the “bitten lip” look. Wearing makeup was reserved for women who would perform onstage. Lip gloss was an essential to a person's makeup look in the 2000s. Vast amounts of lip gloss were applied during this time. Thin eyebrows were also once again popular. Dark eyeshadow and blue eyeshadow was popular to create a more grungy look. Tanned skin was also became more common and getting spray tans was a perfect way to achieve that look. This was an era of experimentation with makeup. Emo and Scene makeup became mainstream. Boho chic fashion also was popular with lifted hemlines and flowy skirts. From 2010 to present, the makeup looks have become more natural yet glamorous. Red lips, smokey eyes, bright eyeshadows, and tans or pale skin, it is all popular today. Makeup today is heavily influenced by social media. Past trends have once again became popular, like contouring and highlighting. The Kardashians are popular influences for makeup today, especially Kylie Jenner. She has been the main influences for the trending makeup looks in today's society. Today liquid lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, highlighters, false eyelashes, and contouring palettes are what many use to achieve the look they want
