Having a Hispanic heritage is a privilege and important to me because it reminds me of the importance of learning about my family’s history, and how my heritage continues to have an impact today. As an early college student and a daughter of an immigrant family, I’m proud to be a Mexican-American citizen and to be descendant of an indigenous family from Oaxaca, Mexico. Learning about my family origin shows me to understand how important it is to continue to celebrate the culture and traditions of our ancestors. The most significant factor of having a Hispanic heritage is we continue to show respect towards our families, have faith in our religious beliefs, and to always remember the importance of having an education. One of my biggest achievements was to be accepted to the Sampson Early College High School. This was an important accomplishment not only for me but also for my family. Getting accept to the early college gave me another chance to start a new beginning in my life and to become a better person among my peers. There were other achievements that were also important to me such as competing at the National Beta Club Convention at state and national where I received three awards. This huge accomplishment has given me the opportunity to express my ideas and talents to other schools across state and country and to proudly represent my school. Another achievement was the opportunity to work for the Migrant Education Program in as a tutor and assistant. This privilege has helped me improve as a member of the community and become leader and role model for other younger students. Most importantly, I wanted to understand why people are so dedicated to their heritage even though they are apart of the United States culture. Even though this does not personally impact me, I have known other people who can relate to this first-hand so I wanted to become more aware, as well as, connect with what they go through and feel. During my reading 3 placement at Morse Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, I worked with two boys who were Mexican and fluently spoke both languages. When both students presented a poster about themselves, they described many aspects of their Mexican culture and when asked to identity themselves, they said they were “Mexican.” After reading the article and having this first-hand experience, this allowed me to understand what Casares is describing. Well, this year's Hispanic Heritage month’s theme has brought to us a meaningful, and inspiring perspective on how Latinos are becoming more honored. Not only honored by their country, and other Spanish countries, but also being honored by the United States. Hispanics have impacted our nation through their solid responsibility to family, confidence, and diligent work. They have put in the effort and time to represent their Latino/a background. There are about 7 billion people in the world; each one of us is different in our own way. Everyone has had different life experiences, some good and some bad. This world is full of cultures that aren’t the same. Being Mexican-American has made me who I am today because I come from a different culture. I know both of my languages, English and Spanish. Also it has built my character.
Since before I was born, my Hispanic heritage played a huge role in who I am and what I have achieved. My great-grandfather immigrated to this country with the desire to provide his family with a better future than his own. My grandpa grew up in Texas on the boarder of Mexico and traveled to Blue Island, Illinois as migrant crop worker. This desire passed down by my grandparents and my great-grandparents has played a tremendous role in propelling me to where I am today. Each generation sought to make the the lives of their children better than their own. The amazing political stand that my great great grandmother took as a Mexican revolutionary woman also known as an adelita is something to definitely to be proud of, because that’s another person in my family that has fought for equality. Another vital factor in my heritage is our belief in La Virgen De Guadalupe. There are portraits and other objects of worship around my house in her honor. In the living room, there’s a portrait of her and in late October and early November, we put pictures of our passed loved ones along with candles around her for Dia De Los Muertos. We pray to her and on December 12th (her birthday) we proclaim our love and gratefulness for her, and on Spanish stations you can watch celebrities singing to her at a church in Mexico
As a traditional, collectivistic cultural group, the Latino population is believed to adhere deeply to the value of familismo. (Arditti, 2006; Calzada, 2014). Comparatively, at times, this isn’t true of our busy, work devoted western culture. In western culture we think of our family in a nuclear sense made up of a: mom, dad, and siblings. Conversely, Hispanic culture focuses on the whole extended family including aunts, uncles, grandparent, and cousins. Their culture believes having close connections with the entire extended family benefits the development of their children. myself did not know before I came to college. The two words are overlapped and used out of context frequently in people’s daily lives. The United States is what people call an immigrant country, there are many different ethnic and racial groups that not even the census can keep up with. All this diversity is what makes our country so different yet amazing. We are willing to embrace the many different cultures that each person has to bring. My family and I have been confused for many different ethnic groups and it is always very interesting to hear people say why they thought we were of a different ethnic group other than Mexican American. Ethnic confusion is a big deal, especially in America because of all the different identities people claim.

A Fairytale is a children's story about magical which they have imaginary beings and lands. Hispanic Folklore is the traditional is mostly about beliefs, legends, customs and stories of the community of the hispanic culture. My family’s Mexican traditions and life experiences played a great role in shaping my individual beliefs and values. I learned to embrace important values, roles, and norms from the Mexican culture. However, the experiences I have encountered throughout my life have influenced my interactions with others, life’s point of view, and the development of having my own sense of reasoning that differs from my family beliefs and values.
My Mexican heritage doesn't affect me a lot but there are still some connections to my daily life. A huge effect is special foods that we eat on special occasions.Religion affects me too on my dad's side of the family they are catholic.My mom's side are christian so both sides of my family want me to be in there religion so I don’t follow to eather.
Have you ever realized how much culture means to others? My Mexican culture is important to my family. I have grown up in a culture different than most of my friends’. Although my mother is not Hispanic, my father’s Mexican background has had a significant impact on my life. My Mexican culture consist of traditions, huge holidays, and customs.
I have not had a single accomplishment that is worth writing about but I feel that my college completion will be one accomplishment that I will be most proud. I feel that I am taking one step forward in life that will make me become a more successful person.
During my life I had some accomplishments. But, I will tell you the truth I cannot call them as my great accomplishments. At this point of my life I had the two greatest events. My first event was my high school graduation. The second event, which was the biggest and the most unforgettable was my wedding day.
