Having a Hispanic heritage is a privilege and important to me because it reminds me of the importance of learning about my family’s history, and how my heritage continues to have an impact today. As an early college student and a daughter of an immigrant family, I’m proud to be a Mexican-American citizen and to be descendant of an indigenous family from Oaxaca, Mexico. Learning about my family origin shows me to understand how important it is to continue to celebrate the culture and traditions of our ancestors. The most significant factor of having a Hispanic heritage is we continue to show respect towards our families, have faith in our religious beliefs, and to always remember the importance of having an education. One of my biggest achievements was to be accepted to the Sampson Early College High School. This was an important accomplishment not only for me but also for my family. Getting accept to the early college gave me another chance to start a new beginning in my life and to become a better person among my peers. There were other achievements that were also important to me such as competing at the National Beta Club Convention at state and national where I received three awards. This huge accomplishment has given me the opportunity to express my ideas and talents to other schools across state and country and to proudly represent my school. Another achievement was the opportunity to work for the Migrant Education Program in as a tutor and assistant. This privilege has helped me improve as a member of the community and become leader and role model for other younger students. Although there were other achievements that were also important, these accomplishments have changed me to discover a new “me” and taught me to express myself in a more broader
