High School Quiz Bowl Team

Even the team with the most skilled, closely bonded team members needs a leader to serve as organizer, strategist, and director. I have no illusion that I'm a great inspiration who can lead my teammates to victory despite all odds, but I do give my best. On occasion, it is my honor to play this role on my high school quiz bowl team. Quiz bowl is, as the name suggests a game of trivia. It consists of four rounds per game. Two of which, the first and fourth rounds, are speed based and consist of toss-up questions for either team to claim. The second round is also a toss-up round, but the team who answers the toss-up correctly gets a bonus set of questions to attempt and gain extra points. The third round is a large part of why the team needs a captain at all. Each team chooses one set from a group of three themed ten question sets, and has sixty seconds to answer as many as possible. The year consists of skirmishes played against local schools, tournaments against members of our region, and in April a state-wide tournament that my school has had much success in. …show more content…

I spent that year and the next as, to be generous, a mediocre player. Once I reached my sophomore year and entered high school I was able to become a decent player, and now that I've reached my senior year I'm capable of holding my own, and sometimes winning, against even my co-captain. My abilities have meant that each time my co-captain is absent, which is unfortunately for him quite frequent, I am charged with leading the team through the game. When I take the captains spot, I am charged with enacting strategies and preventing our opponents from gaining too much momentum. The win rates for both my co-captain and myself are
