Herbology is the study of not only magical plants but mundane plants as well. In the first year of Herbology there have been several types of plants that have been examined and each have its own separate, unique properties, dangers, treatment, and uses. Herbology can be viewed as an art form if one were to view each plant as its own entity with different rules and way to care for the plant. Different plants are used for a variety of different reasons to healing, potion making, breeding, and even helping recognizing the particular wand wood being used in a duel. In medicine it is often important to look for a plant's temperament and toxicity in order to hypothesize the usefulness of a particular plant in a healing potion.

After having a basic understanding of why Herbology is so important and the proper steps to taking care of these plants, a person can begin to raise some plants of their own. Below are several notes of observations I found while observing plants in the lab. One could potentially note that how the each factor listed above is vital and how each plant clearly has its own identity.

Gillyweed grows in the Mediterranean Sea and grows 5cm-7cm. The palnt is moderately alkaline and consumes large amounts of water. Even though they require little sunlight, depending on how much water they intake, there is no limit to the amount of sunshine they take in. I have not tested this myself but sources indicate that in fresh water this affect lasts for about an hour but can last up to three hours in salt water.
