This essay will demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of public health and health promotion, which will be accomplished by discussing the topic of cervical cancer awareness as a public health priority. The method of health promotion used in this assignment is the educational approach through promoting awareness (Kozier 2008). The rationale for choosing this topic will be explained and this will be supported with the appropriate literature. The development of a health promotion resource and the target audience which this was aimed towards will also be discussed. Factors considered when planning and developing this resource will also be explored. Lastly a self-reflective analysis on my learning regarding health promotion in relation to this exercise will be addressed. While this is highly significant in practice, I have learned that health promotion is integral to all nurses, not just those working in public health sector (Public Health England 2013). That we have a duty to our patients in preventing specific health related concerns and act as a facilitator in helping people to recognize these concerns during the life course (NMC 2015). Upon reflecting on this resource, I believe the knowledge and skills that I have gained from undertaking this module will aid me in effective practice in order to meet the changing health needs of the population.
