It is the story of John Grady Cole living his dream as a cowboy where his true grit is tested and Cole’s survival seems questionable at multiple times throughout the story with encounters he faces. John Grady Cole does not know what exactly is waiting for him along his eventful journey.Early on John Grady Cole loses practically everything that he once thought would be his. Cole 's grandfather dies early just as Hamlet’s father died except Cole’s grandfather wasn’t murdered. Cole nevertheless did lose the land that was once his grand father 's. John left his home and set off on his quest picturing it as one of those the mythical cowboy tails while doing so Cole is also looking for himself do to the major losses he just dealt with. John Grady tests his best friends loyalty by asking him to live out the wild west cowboy dream. John Grady and his loyal friend Lacey Rawlins sets outs on horseback in search of the cowboy lifestyle. Through this romantic lifestyle, Cole will face many infractions that he will have to face that are relatable to Greek tragedies. According to Rees from English Literature notes and guides Greek tragedies are usually known for men’s small insignificance in the face of a strong power that controls and mostly destroys the human life. For Cole, the divine power he faces is nothing more than the power the corrupt law in a foreign country he knows hardly anything about and what comes with the foreign society.John discovers that preconceived notions about men and human society are false, and he finds that they do not live the in a romantic world as he does and as he supposed they did. Until John finally realized that he was susceptible to getting hurt because he was not yet ready for the real world, but only ready for the one he had a preconceived thought
