In the story, ”Gryphon,” by Charles Baxter, Tommy, a boy in the story, had sometimes defended Miss Ferenczi. I think Tommy defends Miss Ferenczi because he had interest in her and wanted to know about her more as a teacher. Miss Ferenczi told the students that she had seen an animal has its body half bird and half lion. While Tommy was going home on the bus, on line 413, Tommy said “She was strange.”. I think this has a part that meant Tommy started to have interest in her as a teacher because he felt something different from other teachers. Here are some reasons why I think that Tommy has interest in Miss Ferenczi and defended her. Why do you think Tommy had defended Miss Ferenczi?

Tommy believes in Miss Ferenczi's stories. On page 56 from line 404 to the end of the page, in the bus Carl and Tommy argued about Miss Ferenczi's stories. Carl said she was lying about all stories, but then Tommy defended Miss Ferenczi and said she was …show more content…

On page 58 line line 456, the author used the phrase "hopping around and playpen to kiss her(his Mom)." And further on line 459 and 473, Tommy said "We had a substitute today, Miss Ferenczi, and I'd never seen her before, and she had all these stories and ideas and stuff." "She said that six times eight is sometimes sixty-eight." It shows that Tommy was so excited to talk about her of what she did, and he wanted an answer like an applause. Also on page 68 line 780~781, it says that Wayne went to the principal and informed what Miss Ferenczi had done. Later, Tommy knew she was gone, he thought he would not be able to see her anymore in his school years. On page 69 line 806~807,Tommy says "She was right! She told the truth!". Tommy was telling that she was right to Wayne and Tommy was worried a lot that he really needed to speak to the principal
