Walking into the Loyola golf coach's office, I couldn't help but smile at what I saw: a golf bag with my name embroidered on it. Now I am officially a NCAA Division I athlete. This happened more than a year ago, when I just arrived at Loyola and was getting ready to play collegiate golf. Golf was the thing that excited me the most. I looked forward to meeting my teammates, going to my first practice, and playing in my first tournament. Over the past year, however, I have realized that golf is not my sole passion in life. While golf is still a part of what defines me, I have found myself paying more and more attention to finance. My goal slowly shifted from winning collegiate tournaments to excelling academically and being involved with finance-related activities. So this …show more content…

At first, I put the majority of my effort into practices and tournaments. This, ironically, alienated me from the rest of the school team, as many of them focused more on parties than golf. From there, I slowly turned my attention to academics for positive energy, and my efforts in school paid off significantly. As I narrowed my academic focus, I found that finance fascinates me the most. I joined two finance clubs at Loyola, and in them I was able to find people who were passionate about what they did. After one semester of participating actively in Rambler Investment Fund, I was appointed the alumni chair of the club. With this role, I established a few connections who currently work in the finance community. In the summer of my freshman year, I continued to build on what I learned by interning at the underwriting department of a Chinese finance company called Qilu Securities. As I became more and more involved in all things related to finance, I have found myself looking at Bloomberg during my spare time and chat about the plummeting oil price with my friends.
