Globalization as Evidenced by Interdependence Multiple technological advances have contributed to the advent of globalization, making it a reality in different ways across the globe, but globalization is sustained, in large part, by its mutually beneficial relationship with the interdependence theory. Globalization’s spread across the globe has not only forced nations to depend on each other or risk being left behind, but it has also effectively discarded the notion that national polities function as bounded or closed systems.

Resources coming from one nation require other nations in need of the resources to cooperate diplomatically. Likewise, the exporter in need of the transaction must cooperate diplomatically in order to ensure that the trading relationship remains stable. Organizations such as the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) allow for the transportation of goods and services between countries but also create an interdependent relationship between countries such as Mexico, Canada, and the United States. These three nations would never consider going to war with each other because the cost is too high. Even with President Donald Trump’s proposal to build a wall along the southern border of the United States, the Mexican and United States’ governments have only settled their disagreements diplomatically, knowing that war would be harmful for both parties. Additionally, the establishment of trading blocs and relationships such as NAFTA, the European Union (EU), and the United States-China trade relationship allow for the sharing of ideas and technologies between nations.
