In George Orwell’s novel 1984, there is love and hate included, where people are ruled by a Big Brother who makes all the rules and the decisions which many people wouldn’t agree with. Then, allegedly you would have people begin to rebel against your government which would cause a mass of chaos in your society over the fact that people hate the society they are living in. Therefore, George Orwell’s novel proves if a society was based on hate it could not be able to survive.
To begin, 1984 was a novel written to show how people can be placed in a society based on hate, and how the people of Oceania are suppressed at the hands of the government. Now the government in this book is known as Big Brother, who is known to do many gratuitous events
I strongly agree with Fromm’s viewpoints and interpretations of Orwell’s 1984 text. He warns that the future federal powers will dehumanize society and leave everyone alienated. Thus, I agree with Fromm to the extent that he acknowledges the fact that humanity can indeed cease to exist as a result of our own self-destruction as well as the effect of our actions. Many of his opinions and warnings expressed by Orwell to an extent appear in contemporary society.

Oceania is in a constant state of war against the two other countries, with bombings occurring daily and the living conditions extremely poor – very little food, very little clothing, and broken down housing. The Party rules over Oceania, with telescreens in almost every room that monitor every move a person makes, as well as anything they say. Posters hang everywhere with the phrase – BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.

In Conclusion, 1984 is a novel that represents a called government. The government is taken over by “The Party”. The Party seeks to gain complete obedience from the people of Oceania. The main goal of the Party is to eliminate independent thought. The book is surrounded by psychological manipulation. Everything that happens throughout the book is government related and tends to manipulate some people of Oceania. Since their government is totalitarian they seek absolute power towards their people. This shows warning of what might happen id our government becomes too powerful, the party is trying to avoid any sort of rebellion from the people.

Orwell wrote the novel to show society what it could become if things kept getting worse: he sensed of the expansion of communism when he wrote the novel. The conflict between democracy and totalitarianism at the year of 1945 created two characters, Winston Smith and Big Brother, in orwell's mind. Big Brother is the embodiment of all the ideals of the totalitarian party. Which is why a society based off of hatred will not survive.
Many people argue whether George Orwell’s 1984 was written purely to criticize, or if it portrays society today. I believe that George Orwell wrote 1984 in order to express his feelings about how society is governed. There are many examples of irony that support my position. 1984 is a political satire, the Orwell used to criticize man’s use of power. The slogan of Oceania is War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength. These three phrases reflect some of the disturbing factors of our society today, which is why I believe that 1984 resembles Orwell’s dystopian creation.
In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, O’Brien claims that living in a society full of hatred is doable in the hands of Big Brother. The reasoning for having Big Brother is to persuade people that the government is in control and no one needs to worry about anything else. Just as many people in 1984 were trained to believe in the the choices and decisions the government makes I feel that today many people are also in the same situation. I agree in O’Brien’s point of view that we can carry on living in a society full of hatred. A society based on hate can and will exist as long as the society remains isolated from the outside world and how the society stays tied together in their hate.
Ultimately, common ideas found in the novel 1984, totalitarianism, surveillance, and lack of privacy are also ubiquitous in modern society and government. Big Brother and modern day government have been able to control its citizens through surveillance equipment, and fear all for a little more power. There is much to learn from such an undesirable form of society much like the one of Oceania in 1984. Examining Big Brother government closely, alarming connections can be made to real-world government actions in the United States and the cruel world within Orwell's book.
