Most people have had moments in their lives when they've felt tired or grumpy for absolutely no reason. Have you ever woken up in the morning feeling lethargic? Most people relate this to a lack of sleep or having a busy life, but the reason is often related to nutrition, or perhaps the lack of it. This essay will discusses nutrition in relation to general health.

Nutrition is very complex. Food is described as healthy or unhealthy, processed or natural, so what does the body really need? A nutrient is anything that fuels and organism. For the human species, nutrients are considered to be food and water that contain certain vitamins, fats, and minerals. Nutrients can be split into main two groups, the macro and the micro. Many people tend to think fats are bad for us, but essential fats are required for our survival. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are fatty acids that humans, and other animals, must ingest because the body requires them for good health, but can not synthesize them. The two main types of essential acids are omega 3 and omega 6. Omega 3 helps our organs function properly and also helps with cell activity such as carrying oxygen and red blood cell activity. A lack of omega 3 can lead to blood clots, memory problems, vision problems, irregular heartbeat, and issues with the function of the immune system. Foods that contain omega 3 include flaxseed oil, walnuts, sesame seeds, spinach, salmon, and tuna. Omega 6 helps the body clear skin diseases, fight cancer, and treat arthritis. Most people actually get enough omega 6 in their diet, but they ruin it by eating food high in sugar and trans fat. Those factors lower omega 6 in the body and can cause harm. They affect many things in the body including how the brain functions, how the body moves, and internal health. If we don't fuel our bodies properly, our metabolic processes suffer and our health declines. A poor diet filled with chemicals and processed foods affect our internal health because they don't provide our bodies with what it needs to function. If we feed our body too much, especially foods that give our body false instructions, we can become overweight, undernourished, and put ourselves at risk for the development of diseases and conditions such a as arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease.
