Gender Socialization In Toys

Gender Socialization is defined as learning the social expectation and attitudes associated with one’s sex. A child and an adult can look at the toy and see that it’s for sale. The expectation is the child wants it but on the other hand the adult may or may not approve of it. Especially when there is an ad in the newspaper or on the TV about advertising a brand new toy, the child will ask for it. Every toy in the store is unique and has a different value for it. I think that adults should approve of the toy first before the child wants to buy it or not. Some adults don’t care if the toy is inappropriate or not which is a little sad.
The toy store I went to go look at is Walmart. As I was walking up and down the aisle to see what kind of toys there were for sale. I saw a whole variety of dolls, different action figured from different movies. Some of the action figures had a bit of a strange look on the face. Other toys were furry animals. The layout of the toys for sale was very neat and there was a price for every toy. The toy aisle was very neat and tidy. Sometimes it isn’t because of all the kids play with the toys to try it out. It could be any new toy that gets developed and planning to be advertised. Usually the advertising company for toys tries to grab the child’s attention to get their parent’s to buy it for them. It depends on the child on what they like. A girl could like a boy toy, a boy could like a girl too. People start judging when a boy plays with a girl toy. It shouldn’t matter what gender plays with the toy as long as the child is happy. The parents may judge their child for playing opposite gender toys. The parent would want their child to play with there own gender toys but if the child decides they want to buy the opposite gender toy the parent’s may or may not approve it. I believe there’s nothing wrong a girl purchasing a boy toy and girl toy purchasing a boy
