According to “Men’s Makeover” by Kelly Rae Chi, males think of their bodies negatively just like women. They feel worse when working out and eating so they go to the extremes to get muscle and loose weight. Males are using supplement, injecting substances and steroids to alter their selves to fit society. Studies will help to stop future disorders because professionals and guardians may not see them. Social media, models, products increase these negative feelings. Chi states that men use working out and defense mechanisms to make themselves seem more masculine. Studies show men do talk about these feelings and asking them to pick images of themselves and a better image to further their understanding. The formal language used is “dissatisfaction” (Chi S12) to describe the thought of their bodies, “suppressant ephedrine” (Chi S12) explains what is in dieting supplements, “more-egalitarian” (Chi S13) can tell that men might feel better after exerting more masculinity. These different words and their meanings give a sophistication that express how this issue can help people by becoming aware of the symptoms and the side effects of what that mind-set can do to someone such as going in to depression and using illegal substances. She also does this by repeating the word “dissatisfaction” in the article every time to explain how they feel about their bodies (Chi S12). This word is a very strong way of saying that they feel bad about their selves. Next, speaks of who is going through this and what men have to go through and how they try to appear better because of outside influences portrayal of the perfect body type. The last part is showing some ways they are researching the issue and how they are working on it. It explains the different programs around the world dedicated to help boys and men with their self-image. The article flows with a great combination of information that is displayed well by beginning with the beginning of the issue, using many point of views and ending with how they are trying to end the issue.
