Gemina by Aime Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is the second book in the Illuminae Files trilogy. The story is presented through a collection of files, transcripts, journal pages, and text messages, which lead the reader through the events that happened on the space station Heimdall. I chose to write about the form, structure, and plot of Gemina, and the title of the book. Gemina is a sci-fi story, taking place on the space station Heimdall at the edge of the universe. The protagonists, Hanna and Nik, live on this space station, which includes a wormhole used to teleporting across the universe. Heimdall is invaded by a hostile organization, BeiTech, who planned a massacre of all the residents of the planet Kerenza in the previous book. The survivors …show more content…

She explains that a Gemina particle is created when two things from different universes interact, which Nik did with his other self in the other universe. The two Niks traded places, creating a Gemina particle. The alternate universe ended up saving the Heimdall and the Hypatia, which resolved some of the conflict. Before reading, I had no idea what the title meant. I knew that Gemina was similar to gemini which means twins in Latin, but I had no idea a different universe would be formed in the book. I knew the title would come up later in the book since the in the first book the title Illuminae became the name of the group trying to fight against BeiTech. Post-reading, I understand the meaning of the title, but I don’t understand why the Rehak 4 authors chose the name. The two universes really weren’t a main point of the story, but the previous book title Illuminae didn’t have much meaning either. Overall, I loved reading Gemina. I enjoyed the action-packed storyline, and I loved reading through the journal pages and security camera footage. The format scared me away at first, but I quickly fell in love with the writing style, or lack of, and this is definitely on my list
