Computers have fascinated me ever since I can remember. Everything about them, from the parts that go into them, to the things you can create with them. More specifically the worlds you can create that others can immerse themselves in; being video games. Though it seems rather simple on the surface, the art of video game design & development has so many specific, and crucial parts that go into the game you purchase and play. Through research, I have gained more insight into each part that goes into game design, and the requirements needed to be successful in the field.
RIT, or more formally know as the Rochester Institute of Technology, is one of the most prestigious New Media Arts schools in the nation. Lucky for me, it is no more than 20 minutes away from my home. RIT is where I plan to go to school after college. Though it is an expensive school (around $45,000 a year), RIT is in the top 5 on the Princeton Review list of Video Game Design schools. RIT is one of the best schools for video game design for one sole reason, it teaches students how to guide themselves and be successful. As said by my interviewee Jon Palmer, (Who is also a graduate of RIT) you will get out of the program what you put into the program. It is very self guided major where much, if not all of the work is carried out by the student. To prepare to get into RIT, one can start basic computer programming like HTML, or Java. As time progresses, one can start programming actual games and have their friends play-test them. Though it isn't the easiest to get into, RIT is one of the best Video Game Design educations you could possibly ask for.
The job titles Video Game Designer or Video Game Developer both seem rather surreal on the surface to the average person....

...ng in such a large selfish industry that won't care unless you make it care”. This made realize that to make progress and be accepted in the video game world, that I have to get my name out there and show everyone that I have potential to do great things. Overall the whole interview process was a humbling experience and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
After extensively researching my selected career, I have found out more than ever that this is the career path for me. Even if I don’t end up developing video games I will most likely end up programming software or something along that line. This has basically been my life goal, and to think in less than 2 years I will achieving that goal, is mind boggling. In my opinion, computer game design, or anything to do with computers for that matter will be the most interesting career anyone can choose to pursue.
