To discover is defined as: to gain knowledge, find, find or learn of something unknown. Discovery therefore means the act, process or an instance of discovery. Discovery can be found in many forms for example: self discovery, historical discovery, physical discovery and scientific discovery just to name a few. “Forrest Gump” directed by Robert Zemeckis, the 1994 film depicts a young man, played by Tom Hanks, who has been alienated by society for most of his life. Gump is not overly intelligent and can be quite dimwitted but it is not just these qualities that make society place its judgement. He is different, an individual and happily doesn't fit in with the conformities and principals of society. Zemeckis film looks at many types of discovery for various characters throughout, particularly Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan Taylor. Divergent is set in post apocalyptic Chicago, within a society that defines every citizen by their social and personality related attributes with five different factions accommodating these. The protagonist, Beatrice Prior, grows up in a faction called Abnegation (selflessness).
