At the level of food production, we do not have a strong base of food production. Our food producer are being split between actually wanting to help our food industry and wanting their share of money. Although the food producer that I interview his goal was to provide his community with fresh grown vegetables to eat. He believe that if we eat healthy then we become one with our bodies. He also raise money from the farm to make money for his farm and to for his family. To be healthy, we need to eat a variety of foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Pesticides play an important role in making sure there is enough food for everyone, by protecting food and crops from pests. Some farmers are based on government subsidies, where they get support from the government. Farming is considered a high risk industry just like Derek said “There is farm-economy and there is the rest of the world economy” when working with the rest of the word farmers tend to be putting in a lot more money in then they are receiving. Food producers will also have to remember that they are running a business, and need to invest in risk management that will protect them from the impact of high risk events such as blizzards, hurricane, and tornados etc. Derek didn’t want to tell me how much he made from farming but he did say that it was his only source of income and because he consume so much time into farming/ food production, he was making enough to provide for his family. They did also save by spending less money on food from the grocery store. They also didn’t buy any junk food like Doritos and candy. He would assess support on Derek Christianson because Derek too have no desire to grow himself to him this is more than a job it is a passion. It is something he enjoy doing. To him it’s more of a lifestyle choice than a business, he grow the products then he sell them at the farmers market. If that was the reality, then every meal would have the potential to be a perfect meal.” (Michael Pollan pg. ) Derek strongly believe that Michael Pollan is right when he is telling us to eat real food and know what we eat. And he believes that our body can reflect on whatever we choose to eat “if we eat better, we will fill better” not only about ourselves but we would actually physically feel
