Fidel Lopez, a young man who was on his way home was forced out of his truck to be beaten. Lopez was severely beaten by African American who were filled with hatred over police brutality. He was repeatedly kicked and drenched in gasoline. During that time, an individual named Bennie Newton enforced for the beating to stop or else they would have to kill him. Due to Newton courage, Fidel Lopez might not have survived. Twenty years ago, brutalities were committed by officials and there was no justice for those. This article wants to inform the reader that the color of your skin or the actions of others do not define who you are because we can be alike in some way but ultimately are different. To begin with, I agree with Fidel View. I think he could easily judge or have a view on someone because of the the pain he had to endured caused by someone else. However, throughout the article, he is able to portray that he's not going to let one experience misjudge others. No one can explain the pain he felt and for him just to be able to forgive shows the kind of person he is. Not only was his health at risk but since this accident happened he has struggled financially. This for me shows that he was saved by Newton for a reason. He himself is a good example of not judging others. Also, the fact that he is not at a good time in his life he continues to be positive for his family and showed no sympathy. Throughout the article, Steve Lopez mentions how Fidel still has a U-shaped scar, a dent on his forehead, rib pain and dizziness. The doctors told Fidel that he would permanently lose his equilibrium. Also, he is not able to make ends meet for his family, to the extreme where they no longer can afford
