A strong, dominating industry that controls the public sphere is fashion. For a centuries fashion was the be-all and end-all of society, fashion designers controlled the trends, whilst models controlled who wore them; and yet with the addition of social media, now the fashion industry is being controlled too. Fashion is known to be one of the 7 most influenced industries by social media. (Carranza, A. 2015). In times without social media, fashion focused on runways, celebrities and public appearances. This was a successful move for Hi Smile and resulted in increased sales and interest, hence why the brand grew from $20,000 to $40million. (The Entourage Resources. (2018)). Thus, proving that social media marketing, targeted to a specific audience can be successful, and compared to the older marketing strategies it can be said that social media has changed the fashion industry for the better.
